Kinetic Facade Systems and Kinetic Facade Examples from Around the World
Abstract
The building envelope protects the building against adverse environmental conditions and interacts with the environment to create an efficient building. Buildings are affected by elements such as wind, time, and climate. These elements are not static but dynamic. For this reason, it can be said that kinetic facades play a very important role in the ability of buildings to adapt to dynamic environmental conditions and changing comfort conditions (Ahmad, Alibaba, & Ibrahim, 2019). In addition, energy consumption is increasing today. It has an important share in energy consumption in buildings. It becomes important to design buildings to adapt to changing environmental conditions and consume less energy. Kinetic systems can also be used to create solutions for energy efficiency in buildings. It can be said that the dynamic nature of kinetic facades and the ability of the facade to move according to the climatic conditions of the environment help to increase the energy performance of the building. This study also focuses on kinetic facade systems. Kinetic facade examples from around the world were examined in the context of energy efficiency.Keywords
